MOMENTUS represents the Media Screening & Exhibition (MOMENTUS 2020) organised by the Department of Media and Communications Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. This third annual Media Screening & Exhibition aims to showcase the final year projects of 30 postgraduate students from Masters of Media Studies programme. Students can choose themes such as “horror”, “animals” and “racism” or be free of theme. The creative works span short films, documentaries, awareness campaigns, concept books and websites were showcased at the exhibition. The undergraduate students from the Bachelor of Media Studies 2020 will also showcase their graduating work. Each creative work will be assessed by expert, external assessors and graded as part of their graduation requirement.
"A Day for Dairy Cows and Dairy Farmers" is a life documentary with a duration of about 7 minutes, which records the routine work of an ordinary dairy farmer named Li Jiangang to raise dairy cows and interact with them in Bayannur city, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. The documentary aims to show a highly harmonious human-livestock interactive relationship, and help people realize that for human beings, the process of raising animals is also a process of self-cognition and self-realization. The core idea is to evoke the cherish and gratitude of livestock, especially dairy cows, and give them a humanitarian breeding process. Trust me, MUST-SEE scenery, delicious food, unique ethnic elements and lovely animals are all included in my documentary.
This is the project for a short documentary film. The theme of this documentary is animals, and the title is "Bird-walking in China ". "Take the bird to a quiet place to stroll", this is the modern Chinese dictionary's explanation of "bird-walking".This short film records a daily life between an old man and his birds and introduces the culture of bird-walking, and calls on people, especially young people, to go and pass on this national folk custom.
“The Sun Bearers” is a documentary project that follows the conservation works that are being done for the rescued Sun Bears at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) in Sandakan, Sabah. The title of the documentary is a play on word of the word “Sun Bear” and “Bearer” where the “Bearers” in this context represents a messenger, a conveyor of hope of sorts. This documentary will highlight the crew’s roles and responsibility in the centre, some hardships faced, as well as how the centre is coping during the Movement Control Order (MCO) during this Covid-19 pandemic.
Songs in the Key of Indie Malaysia is a book that explores Malaysian independent music from the point of view of 14 songs. The book is not intended to be a comprehensive chronicle of the independent scene, but rather, seeks to use the 14 songs featured as jumping off points to cast sustained looks at Malaysian society and culture via music criticism, opinion and in-depth interviews with the respective artistes and songwriters. Among the songs featured are ‘Rokok Sebatang’ by Brian Gomez, ‘Lena’ by Azmyl Yunor, ‘Cinta’ by MonoloQue, ‘Worrying Tart’ by The Venopian Solitude, and ‘No Christmas For Me’ by Zee Avi.

This project is about the Covid-19. As a society watcher, Lodge will record his life in KL, while influenced by Restricted Movement Order. And in this documentary, Lodge will talk about the incidents happen in China Mainland, trying to reveal some social issues. And as an international student in UM, Lodge will show the hard life influenced by the virus. In this documentary, Lodge will find out a lot of dark sides from the society and show them to all the audience. It is horror but real. But the hope still exists, it just need to rise from the dark side.
#Cipan is a 10-minute animal documentary that comprises the endangered life of Malayan tapirs and humans' conservation measures. This documentary takes place in the one and only reserved conservation centre for Malayan tapirs in Malaysia - Sungai Dusun Wildlife Conservation Centre (Selangor, Malaysia) in order to reflect the background of 2,499 numbers of mature Malayan tapirs left in the world and the current situation faced by Malayan tapirs due to the human disturbance and intrusions, and natural problem such as road kills and hunting besides slow fertility. By focusing on getting some close shots with Malayan tapirs through the lenses and having in- depth interviews with the keepers and experts of Malayan tapirs, #Cipan aims to appeal to the wildlife animal ecological conservationists in Malaysia and worldwide, animal lovers, researchers and educators, poachers and environmentally dampers, as well as a broader audience by touching the weakest innermost part of mankind besides providing more context on Malayan tapirs and contribute to discussion on how people can take action to save and protect this animal during their daily life, as well as how to prevent the last 2,499 Malayan tapirs from being extinct from this Earth.

Ramadan in 2020 will be very different for our Muslim friends and neighbors. This is because, the present challenging situation but also brings new opportunities for fasting and praying may be blessed. Muslims spend the month of Ramadan fasting during the day from dawn until sunset and is a time when families gather to celebrate. However, looking at the world is reversed and many friends and family cannot unite in person. The mosque cannot hold a free iftar daily (food eaten after sunset). They organize fundraisers, faculty and lectures, all of which are an integral part of the celebration. After breaking the fast, Muslims go to the mosque to pray together, which is only possible during Ramadan which is taraweeh. This year, Muslims have to go the virtual route. Human interaction will be missed and the peace and peace that one feels around the mosque will be missed, but we all now understand the magnitude of the crisis. Loneliness has definitely influenced many Muslims, especially those who cannot return to their families, but live here alone in the city. But we are still connected, we are still here, and we will be here throughout the month of Ramadan.
Pet Ownership in Malaysia 101 aims to provide up-to-date information to current and prospective pet owners regarding pet ownership in the context of Malaysia. The book is written to hopefully provide a comprehensive guide by explaining the process of getting a pet and relevant information about pet ownership, such as the welfare and healthcare of pets. It will prepare pet owners for the realities of pet ownership in the context of Malaysia and educate them to be responsible owners while increasing awareness to adopt strays.
"The Act of Screaming" is a short alternate history novel aimed at young adult readers that takes place in post-World War 2 Malaya. It follows the lives of a young Malay girl, her brother and friends as they navigate the tumultuous period of political uncertainty in late 1940s Kuala Lumpur, and come face to face with the uncomfortable realities of a society in the throws of an ideological revolt, torn along racial lines.

It records the growing up experience of the pony in a horse training field after birth. It mainly focuses on how the pony leaves the mare and receives the training independently. The ponies who go through these experiences face the same problems as the children who are going to kindergarten and separation anxiety.

This is an animal documentary tells the history and characteristics of yaks and the deep relationship between yaks and Tibetans on the plateau in Xindu Bridge town. It tells a touching story between one young Tibetan man and his yaks. This young man decided to back to hometown to work after college for he don’t want to be apart from his yak and stopped his father from selling the yak in his childhood. Yak represents the spirit and belief of Tibetans.

There are four states in Malaysia that have Nobat music groups including Kedah, Perak, Terengganu and Selangor. Nobat in the state of Kedah is the oldest Nobat. Nobat was also a royal musical instrument for royal ceremonies such as sultan's day, royal wedding, royal death, and royal birthday.

Due to the Restriction Movement Order (RMO) there are people who do not eat for two or three days because they are not capable and they don't want to be who they are but this is their faith. What is our faith? Are we just having fun, sit at our comfy couch and enjoy the movie? Or eating a lot while wasting it without thinking there are a lot of people who struggle out there and need our help. Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) is one of the NGO who got permission from the Ministry of Health (KKM) and Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) to distribute the relief from others who lend their hand to help those who needed. So what is our contribution?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurobehavioral disorder that often interferes with a student’s concentration and focus. Ever told that ADHD would prevent teenage from becoming successful? Particularly in studies just because of the inability to focus, procrastination and disorganization? This two-minutes PSA is about a teenage girl who is struggling with ADHD in keeping up with her study schedule. She then managed to find effective ways to study with better techniques. This PSA aims to highlight the effective tips on how to study with ADHD brain by practicing the tips on how to study and be encouraged despite the limitations due to the disorder.
This final year project purposely to introduce the audience in executing one of the projects based on the main idea of current issues focusing on the importance of online learning among university students. This final project predominantly emphasizes the difference of traditional and online learning, the difference of rural and urban geographical areas of students, and the acceptance of students in online learning. Therefore, the execution of the project will mainly focus on students by using animation, infographic materials that will be translated to Public Service Announcement.
My short film is about one male teacher who just move into a new town and he got a job at nearest school. He still feels awkward because of the new town. He usually goes to school by bicycle every single morning. Suddenly, one day he gets stop by police and ask an identification card because of the bicycle he ride. The police thought the bicycle was stolen. He also hates the road that he always takes to go to the works. After the police stop him, he found his student beside the road and they continue the journey to the school. His student, Atif was really respects him because he is so kind. They are like a friend. Always go to school together. Lastly, he arrived in front of the school and continue his days as usual.
#LOVENOTHATE: Stop Child Abuse PSA is a short animation story about a boy who has been abused by his mother. It all started when he was playing with his toys by himself in the room. He then walked to his mother, who was in the kitchen, wanted to ask for some water. His mother who was talking on the phone, pushed the boy as she did not want to be disturbed. The boy tried to get a glass by himself, then dropped it on the floor. The broken glass raised his mother’s anger, which leads to him being hit and beaten.
A non-dialogue PSA starts with a poor girl wanting to eat leftover rice but a kind-hearted lady stopped her and gave her fresh food instead. Then a flashback that the girl found the leftover rice from the food waste while the lady actually observed all this from far. After 15 years, the grown-up woman sees a familiar face begging a passer-by for food. The cold-hearted man ignores the old lady so the woman quickly offers some heavy food to her. Later the old lady realizes that the good-natured woman is actually the poor girl whom she once helped!

Saat yang paling dirindui oleh semua umat islam. Raya bakal berkunjung tiba tetapi Afiq, tahun ini raya dia agak berbeza. Tiada pulang ke kampung disebabkan oleh PKP iaitu Perintah Kawalan Pergerakkan yang giat dilakukan oleh pihak kerajaan untuk membendung Covid-19. Terpaksa Afiq beraya seorang diri di tengah bandar Kuala Lumpur, sebak hatinya bila difikirkan tetapi Afiq gagahkan juga. Apa yang bakal terjadi dan karenah Afiq pada pagi syawal, terngiang-ngiang suara seseorang di dalam fikirannya atau dia sedang rindukan seseorang di kampung?
KNOT is a short film which narrate an ordinary office worker in the midnight. The main character, Albert is still working even in the midnight, the weekend. The peak comes when Albert finds out he was locked in his room and the lights off all of a sudden. In the dark, Albert is getting frustrated, he hears some illusion and only calms down while he hears a ringtone on his cell phone. The story ends when Albert texts his mother “I miss you, mum” and the door open, the lights shine into his room.
This Public Service Announcement (PSA) depicts the daily struggles of a teen schoolgirl who suffers from an eating disorder, Anorexia Nervosa. It is an eating disorder that characterised by fear of gaining weight and a distorted perception of weight. In this PSA, some of the behavioural symptoms are displayed by the girl ranging from restricting her own diet, self-inducing vomit to excessive exercise in order to lose weight. This public service announcement portrays the everyday life of an anorexia victim and how the eating disorder is affecting them.

The employer Muhamad Shafiq bin Mat Rami Yani or his famous nickname Shafiq Kim, 23, has been in business since 2017. He created his own recipe during his final year of diploma study. This product managed to collect as much as RM 9000 in 9 weeks. This product has been approved by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) in 2019 under the name Ultimate Chocolate Enterprise. The tagline of this product is 'Wickedly Bite' which means haunted bites because anyone who tries it will surely want it again.

E-Magazine is not like printed-magazine in general that use paper to write the articles, rather than that, it uses a digital form that can be accessed through electronic devices, such as smartphones, computers, and tablets, and laptops. LUMIÈRE is an e-magazine that contains interesting information about fashion trends, beauty tips, and lifestyle. In this volume, LUMIÈRE mainly focuses on Ramadhan. This edition has five 5 main contents, which are Ramadhan 2020’s trends, healthy tips while fasting during corona virus pandemic, quick recipes for iftar, activities to do during Ramadhan, and Eid looks. By using a minimalist design, LUMIÈRE can be called as a magazine that has an aesthetic value.

Aim for this two minutes Public Service Announcement (PSA) is to share about how students makes strategies to overcome and manage their perceived stress effectively in their study life. In this PSA, university students also give their own tips on how they manage stress in their study life.
Cerpen “Disleks” yang menjuduli antologi ini menyelami kisah onak duri seorang anak disleksia bernama Hakim yang sering dilabel bermasalah dan tidak pintar seperti rakan-rakan seusianya. Hakim sering mengalami masalah berkaitan pembelajaran misalnya keupayaan membaca, mengenal huruf, mengeja dan memahami struktur atau susunan sesuatu ayat yang kompleks. Di sekolah, Hakim sering merasa disisihkan, apabila rakan sekelasnya sentiasa bersaing untuk menjadi yang terbaik dalam setiap peperiksaan. Guru-guru yang tidak memahami sering menyindir Hakim, membuatkan Hakim semakin tertekan. Antologi cerita pendek ini memuatkan 10 karya yang berkisarkan pelbagai tema, misalnya tema kekeluargaan, persahabatan, cinta, budaya selain daripada mengangkat isu-isu semasa seperti gejolak sosial, kekacauan emosi dan banyak lagi.
